Two world leading PCO’s – now in Copenhagen
In 2008 the Congrex Group opened their first office in Copenhagen, while this April MCI merged with the local PCO, NHG A/S, making the Danish capital an even more obvious choice for being the host city for international conventions. Though Copenhagen already has an excellent meetings infrastructure - including the largest international airport in Northern Europe - the city continues to expand its meetings facilities. Next year will see the opening of a new conference centre, Tivoli Congress Centre, with a maximum capacity of 4,000 delegates in the heart of the city. And, over the next three years, 3,000 new hotel rooms will be made available in the Danish capital, bringing the total capacity to over 16,000 rooms. The city's impressive reputation and its ambitious plans for the future were two of the reasons behind MCI's move to Denmark. Mr Bosse Magnusson, head of MCI in Scandinavia, says: "Our strategy is to expand in Scandinavia and we are thrilled with this move into Copenhagen right now, as the city is investing heavily in expanding its offer." When Congrex opened its office in Copenhagen last year, Mr Antonio Gozzo, CEO for Congrex in Denmark and Sweden, commented: "Denmark has a major market for meetings and conferences and we see enormous potential as much as with existing clients as new ones. Our aim is to become the largest operator in meetings and events in Denmark within three years." Mr Steen Jakobsen, Convention Director at Wonderful Copenhagen CVB, says: "That two of the world's leading PCOs have chosen to open offices in Copenhagen underlines the fact that the city is a major player in the international meetings industry. The growth and development we are witnessing will ensure that we maintain our position, and I am sure that Congrex and MCI will be excellent partners."
