If you want your meeting participants to think creatively, you
can start by booking them into the new Fox Hotel near the City Hall
Square in Copenhagen. Not just because the hotel’s 61 rooms all
with expressive and very different interiors provide sensory
inspiration, but also because it is a completely new hotel concept
challenging the conventional where nothing is as you would
expect.
A hotel experience
As a guest at Hotel Fox no one wishes you a pleasant stay;
instead you are wished a pleasant experience. And this experience
starts the minute you step into the fantastically decorated foyer
and go to the reception to check in. The rooms are unnumbered so
guests are presented with a range of ”do not disturb” signs
reflecting the design of the individual rooms. Guests select the
sign that appeals most and have thereby chosen their room. The 61
rooms are all completely different so choosing between a room with
Art Deco inspired furnishings or a room where the walls have
patterns taken straight out of a 1960s psychedelic film or a room
where you spend the night in the company of Japanese Manga inspired
cartoon characters may well pose a dilemma to some guests.
Beyond classification
The next choice the guests have to make is the minibar. This is
an empty cooler bag you have to fill yourself and take to your
room. While you are making the preparations for your hotel
experience, you can also buy a book or a love-kit containing
various articles to liven up the time spent in your hotel bed.
Hotel Fox has chosen not to be part of the official hotel
classification system. Because even though this newly renovated
hotel is top class regarding quality of furnishings, service and
bathroom facilities, the hotel cannot be allocated stars if it
cannot guarantee, for example, that there is a desk in each
bedroom. And if the designer has decided that the entire room
should consist of an enormous bed then there is no desk. However,
flat screen TV and free internet connection have made their way
into all the rooms.
City of cool
Hotel Fox is owned and managed by the hotel group Brøchner and
came about through an unusual partnership with the car makers VW.
The German car company needed a hotel in Copenhagen for the world
premiere of their new car – Fox. The car launch was a highly
unorthodox event, which took place over three weeks with guests
staying at Hotel Fox while they participated in the various events
around the city. As part of the branding of the new Fox car, VW
invited 21 young designers from all over Europe, all untried in the
field of hotel design, to create the interior of Hotel Fox.
The result of the young designers’ work is a completely new
lifestyle hotel concept in Copenhagen, the like of which you won’t
find anywhere else in the world. Hotel Fox has found its natural
home in the Danish capital, which these days is seriously making
its name as ”city of cool” and a city which thrives on creativity
and innovation.
