Grew up in Copenhagen
The Danish actress, Connie Nielsen, was born on 3 July 1965 in the Danish town Frederikshavn and grew up in Copenhagen. Already when she was 15 years old she performed in her mother's cabaret. Barely 18, she moved to Paris to pursue her dream of acting, and the work led her to Rome, Milan and South Africa before reaching New York in 1993.
Hollywood stardom
Connie Nielsen's debut in English movies came with the thriller Voyage. Hereafter many movies followed with co-stars Tommy Lee Jones in The Hunted, John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson in Basic, Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves in The Devil's Advocate, and Robin Williams in One Hour Photo. In 2000, the busy Danish actress played the role as Princess Lucilla in Ridley Scott's Academy Award-winning Gladiator, where Russell Crowe played the male character Maximus. Connie Nielsen has been rewarded as Best Actress from the Danish Academy and at the San Sebastian Film Festival she won an award for her role in the Danish drama Brothers from 2004, instructed by fellow Dane Susanne Bier. In 2005, she worked with yet another famous Dane, film instructor Bille August, in the film Return to Sender.
Connie Nielsen is the girlfriend of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich. They live in the US, and in May 2007 she gave birth to their first child Bryce Thadeus Ulrich-Nielsen. Connie has another son, Sebastian, from a previous relationship.
