offers guided jogging tours, during which a knowledgeable city guide not only leads you around the city’s best running routes, but also tells you about the sights that you pass on your way. This morning, delegates from an international conference went on a running sightseeing tour to kick-start their busy conference.
240 delegates from 35 countries will be in Copenhagen over the next couple of days to participate in the Milestone Integration Platform Symposium (MIPS), hosted by the Danish office of the global software company, Milestone Systems A/S.
A Chance to see Copenhagen
Aside from their hotel room at the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel*****
and the conference centre Axelborg
, they will have little chance to see the rest of Copenhagen. This was one of the main reasons why the Danish Channel Marketing Manager, Jens Berthelsen, decided to offer the delegates a chance to take a running sightseeing tour through the city. He says:
“It is a perfect start to an otherwise busy schedule. Many run when they are travelling on business, and I am a keen runner. However, though this was totally voluntary, 32 participant showed up for the 5.5km run, which I think it a fantastic way to show Copenhagen. It's also a good way to bring the conference delegates together."
Lena Andersson, who is the woman behind Running-Copenhagen, currently has a staff of seven guides, but the concept has proven so popular that she is beginning to recruit even more guides to be able to accommodate more and larger groups. She says:
"The concept has been really well received. Guided jogging is healthy, active and sustainable, which matches perfectly to Copenhagen's profile as a green and sustainable meetings city."Running-Copenhagen and the Foreign Ministry
Running-Copenhagen is partnering with the Foreign Ministry to offer guided running tours when Denmark holds the EU presidency in the first half of 2012, which ties in well with the Danes' ambition to make this presidency the most sustainable ever. Danish Sustainable Events Initiative (DSEI).
The goal is to see the presidency certified under the terms of the new ISO 20 121, which is used to certify events held according to sustainable principles.
