A Tour around Copenhagen Harbour with Peter Olesen

In his book A Tour around Copenhagen Harbour journalist Peter Olesen guides the reader through the capital's canals and waterways. The book is based on the author's popular guided tours around the harbour and reflects his personal view of wonderful Copenhagen.

- On this tour you see more or less everything and get a commentary that comes from the gut when I'm the guide. I praise the good things and criticise the less good, but always cheerfully. My expectation is that people would rather be guided in a subjective way than in a polite, glib manner that is devoid of personal opinion, says Peter Olesen.

And Peter Olesen has no doubts that the best way to see the city and its harbour is from the tranquil vantage point of the sea.
- One can sail in peace and take in the sights from a suitable distance. The city takes on a much wider perspective when viewed from the water, he says.

Through the Medieval Centre of the City
The tour takes passengers through the medieval centre of the city, passing highlights such as the Danish Parliament, the royal castles, the Little Mermaid and Nyhavn. But they also get to see the experimental architecture of the newly rennovated parts of the harbour, including the Opera House, the Royal Library, Christianshavn and numerous residential areas that have attracted architectural praise from around the world in recent years.

Tribute to Copenhagen
Until recently the harbour of Copenhagen was neglected by the surrounding city left useless with empty warehouses. But in recent years the habour has seen massive changes. A Tour around Copenhagen Harbour is a tribute to the city and its harbour. And it is a celebration of the endless possibilities that the harbour has to offer. Peter Olesen considers his mission to be that of inspiring even more people to enjoy and explore his beloved city.

Architectural Landmarks
Peter Olesen has also written Eight Walks around Copenhagen. This book explores the city's many architectural landmarks, the tourist attractions and the overlooked secrets of Denmark's friendly capital. The eight walks will give you an insider's view of the city - and plenty of exercise!
