Golden Days - Copenhagen's Historical Festival
Relive the Renaissance and King Christian IV's Copenhagen when the historical festival Golden Days hits the streets of the Danish capital on September 1st. It lasts until September 24th.
Today, Copenhagen is known for its trendy restaurants, young fashion designers and the popular Scandinavian design - but the city's historical refuges are still there, side by side of the modern quarters.
Back to the Renaissance
The past is still a living part of Copenhagen's life, and this September the Golden Days festival focuses on King Christian IV's Copenhagen. From September 1st - 24th the festival will present a wealth of exhibitions, theatre, concerts and other experiences in the city. Among many other things you can relieve the Renaissance at Golden Days' large opening party on September 2nd, where the fantastic Renaissance Castle Rosenborg - a historical oasis in the centre of the city - is brought to life again with a knight's tournament, market atmosphere and also dances, delicacies, scents and theatre from the Renaissance.
The World's Oldest Monarchy
For more than 1000 years Denmark has been united under the Danish royal family, making the country the oldest monarchy in the world. The Danish line of kings counts no less than 53 regents - and the most famous of them all is King Christian IV, who ruled the country during the Renaissance.
Under the visionary King Christian IV the country's capital Copenhagen was completely transformed, and the small medieval town became a European capital of international character. The city got the face that still characterises it today, now renowned the world over for its historical skyline of green towers and spires.
