INDEX: Design Exhibition 2007 in Copenhagen

In August 2007, 100 spectacular examples of design will be adorning Kongens Nytorv - Copenhagen's finest venue. This international open air design exhibition is presented by INDEX:, a Copenhagen based organization. It believes there is more to design than beautiful chairs and sophisticated cutlery.

The INDEX: Exhibition kicks off on August 17th 2007 and is open until September 24th, culminating on August the 24th where the biggest design award in the world will be handed out for the second time by HRH The Crown Prince of Denmark, ministers, the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen and INDEX: Partners during an official ceremony at Copenhagen City Hall for 900 international guests from 55 countries. Among the 100 top design nominations INDEX: awards five winners with a design prize - each worth 100.000 Pounds Sterling.

Design that Improves Life
Traditionally, design has been perceived as sheer molding. However, design can also be looked upon as a problem solving tool. Better solutions are not created just by producing newer, nicer and better products. They are also created through the design of better overall strategies, better total concepts and better services. In other words, as society evolves, so do the things we produce and use and in order to solve the global challenges, INDEX: seeks to inspire and pave the way for design that improves life.

The idea of making Copenhagen the venue of a worldwide design event and exhibition was conceived in 2000 and taken up by the Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs, Wonderful Copenhagen and the City of Copenhagen, and received financial support for the project in its preliminary phases to determine its value for the Danish design industry as well as for marketing Copenhagen on the international stage.

The INDEX: idea was launched in 2005 created by the organization and 37 private and public partners and received international applause. The theme 'Design to Improve Life' is a new approach to the definition of good design with a cause.
