Music Around - a Unique Swedish-Danish Collaboration
The music festival Music Around is taking place for the third time since its conception in 2002. The festival is the result of the successful and long-term collaboration between orchestras in the Öresund region for the enjoyment of both the public and musicians. This year's theme is the Russian composer Dimitri Shostakovich.
He was without a doubt one of the 20th century's most important musical figures, and this year would have celebrated his 100th birthday. The Russian composer Dimitri Shostakovich will be celebrated this year all over the world - in the Öresund region both Danish and Swedish musical talent will be combined for a fantastic festival running from September 28 - October 29.
All the Symphonies
The programme will include all the symphonies performed by seven different symphony orchestras, five from the Öresund region as well as two guest orchestras. The festival takes place mainly in Copenhagen, Malmö and Helsingborg and also includes chamber music, concerts for children and young people, lectures, dance and theatre.
Music Around starts on Thursday September 28 when the Danish National Symphony Orchestra/DR performs Shostakovich's symphony number four in Copenhagen and finishes on Sunday October 29 with a performance of Symphony number six by the Belgrade Symphony Orchestra in Malmö. During the four weeks of the festival you will have a unique opportunity to listen to all the symphonies!
Chamber music
Music Around presents an extensive programme of chamber music comprising many of Shostakovich's pieces for chamber orchestra. Many of the region's ensembles are taking part as well as visiting international guest groups. These include the St Petersburg String Quartet, the Musica Vitae Chamber Orchestra, the Kungsbacka Piano Trio and the Danish Radio Youth Ensemble. The chamber music concerts will be held mainly in Copenhagen, Malmö and Helsingborg with additional venues in Lund, Ängelholm, Landskrona and other locations in Southern Sweden.
