Tivoli Concert Hall - 23 weeks at full blast

This season, the Tivoli Concert Hall presents some of the most outstanding artists in the world of music, a new cyberspace forum: koncertsalen.tivoli.dk, 'Go classical' for young people under 35, and a succession of conversations with the performing artists ('Meet the artists').

Besides the comprehensive classical music programme, concerts featuring artists such as Bryan Ferry (27 May) and Macy Gray (30 May) will continue last year's successful rock concerts in the Concert Hall. Gino Vannelli, David Sanborn, Randy Brecker, Lisa Nilsson and Niels Lan Doky (2 and 3 July) will appear with the Tivoli Symphony Orchestra, which will also perform with Rolando Villazon, the hottest name in opera (15 August), Leonard Slatkin, the American master conductor, with the Chinese piano phenomenon Yundi Li (1 September), the violinist Vadim Repin (26 May), the pianist Maria Joao Pires and many more.

- The Concert Hall will present both high-brow and popular music - the keyword is quality! Whether you prefer a master pianist or an r&b diva, great rock'n'roll performances or intimate moments where you can feel the entire audience holding its breath, the Concert Hall has something for everyone. Putting it all together has been tough going, but now I am looking forward to alternately taking my children, my soccer friends and my parents to see and hear all the magic and varied experiences that this fantastic building will have to offer, says Nikolaj Koppel, Music Director.

From Thomas Quasthoff to Anne Sofie von Otter
World-class bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff finally visits Denmark as the top name in Haydn's 'The Creation' (24 June). Also high-profile guests such as Zubin Mehta/Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (15 September), the Alban Berg Quartett (17 May) and the Emerson String Quartet (5 September) will perform at the Concert Hall.

Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter is the soloist in a large-scale gala concert on 10 June in the Tivoli Concert Hall when the Queen Ingrid Honorary Prize is awarded to two talented young artists in the fields of classical music and ballet. For the 20-40-year-olds, '440 Hz', last year's successful introduction to classical music, will be repeated. And for the youngest concert goers, the 80 strong Symphony Orchestra will perform with Danish children's TV hosts Martin and Ketil, Signe Svendsen, Michala Petri and the dancers of the Pantomime Theatre in three family concerts (19 and 20 May).

'Meet the artists' in conversations with Music Director Nikolaj Koppel
What is on the artists' minds just before they go on stage? How long do they practice every day and how does it work? Music Director Nikolaj Koppel interviews the artists, and the audience is also invited to ask questions. 'Meet the artists' Vadim Repin and Marty Brabbins (26 May), Okka Kamu and Maria João Pires (16 June), Thomas Quasthoff and Helmuth Rilling (24 June), Vivian Hagner and Osoma Vänska (28 July) and Bo Skovhus and Patrick Summers (3 August). The conversations take place on stage right after the concerts.

11 events for young people under 35
'Go classical' is a new event for young people under 35 who are given the choice of 11 selected concerts featuring both Danish and international stars at DKK 80 per concert. The three back rows of the Concert Hall, which offer an excellent view and great acoustics, have been reserved specially for this purpose. The selected concerts include Rossen Milanov and Katrine Gislinge (3 May), Alban Berg Quartett (17 May), Vadim Repin and Martyn Brabbins (26 May), Okko Kamu and Maria João Pires (16 June), Steven Osborne (11 July), Thomas Dausgaard, Lisa Batiashvili and Svenska Kammerorkestern (26 July), Vivian Hagner and Osma Vänskä (28 July), Bo Skovhus and Patrick Summers (3 August), Cristian Mandeal and Rafal Blechacz (8 August), 440 HZ (28 August) and Leonard Slatkin and Yundi Li (1 September).
