Contributed to cultural and social life
Carlsberg was founded in 1847 by the brewer J.C. Jacobsen and became an important part of Danish and international business activities. J.C. Jacobsen generously contributed to cultural and social life in Denmark. He was deeply involved in the reconstruction of Frederiksborg Castle, where the Museum of National History brings to light the history of Denmark.
Another fine project on which J.C. Jacobsen left his distinct mark is the Botanical Garden of Copenhagen. Actually, the green-house was partly designed by J.C. Jacobsen being inspired by the English Crystal Palace.
Founder of Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek
The son Carl Jacobsen, who was founder of the New Carlsberg Brewery, was a devoted patron of art. Carl Jacobsen not only donated The Little Mermaid to the city of Copenhagen in 1913, he also founded the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek which is one of the finest museums in Denmark.
A visit to the Carlsberg Visitors Centre is definitely to be recommended and you will even get an opportunity to sample some of the famous beers during the visit.
